Gustavo Juarez-Perez, 38, was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of his wife, 30-year-old Cheyanne Juarez, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

At 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, officers from the South Toms River Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an unconscious female at a home on Hummel Drive, Billhimer said.

Responding officers arrived to find Cheyanne Juarez lying on the floor, unconscious, with blood on her face and a belt around her neck, according to the prosecutor’s office. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but Juarez was pronounced dead at the scene, Billhimer said.

A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Juarez-Perez was responsible for his wife’s death, Billhimer said.

Juarez-Perez was taken into custody at the residence without incident and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains pending a detention hearing, officials said.

Billhimer commended investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their collaborative efforts in quickly apprehending Juarez-Perez.
